When updating your website you essentially have two options:
1. Hire a professional to update your Static website 2. Do it yourself or have a staff member update your Dynamic website.
1. Hiring a Professional
If you have a static website (ie. one that is not driven by a database or a content management system), you will likely want to use a professional with the technical knowledge required (often referred to interchangeably as a "web designer"). This can be sufficient for small entry level websites that are updated every few months or so. As your site grows you may find that updating your website becomes more demanding (even for the web designer) and it may be more viable to upgrade.
2. Updating Your Website Yourself using Content Management
If your website has a lot of content and is becoming more complex, you might consider upgrading to a dynamic website (one that is driven by a content management system). A good content management system can be useful for those with little or no technical knowledge. While the structure of the site remains the same, the website will, for example, generate a new page with new content that you add. The main benefits of content management is that you can update your website from any computer with internet access quickly and independently.
